Learn the Basics
Join us to learn conflict resolution skills. This course teaches the basic process of mediation through role-play to work out family and workplace conflict scenarios.
Objectives:
- Identify the types of conflict and resolution strategies
- Understand the different models of mediation
- Explore different ethical issues and how professionals using mediation can address those issues
Continuing Education Credits:
- 12 CEU clock hours are available for social workers and counselors licensed in Ohio.
- CLE credits are available for Ohio attorneys.

Meet the Trainers
Marie Hill, MEd, PCC
Marie Hill was employed for 15 years as the Coordinator of Mediation Services at Beech Acres Parenting Center. She is an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association of Conflict Resolution and a Licensed Clinical Counselor.
Marie has worked with hundreds of divorcing and post-decree couples who have endeavored to work together for the sake of their children, and maintains a private practice in Anderson Township for marriage counseling and mediation.
She is a founding member of the Cincinnati Mediation Council, past Vice President of the Ohio Mediation Association and member of the Governor’s Task Force on Family Law and Children.
Marie is also a Collaborative Family Relations Specialist.
Sharon James, M.A.
Sharon James is passionate about communication and managing conflict for families. She joined Beech Acres Parenting Center nine years ago and is a Divorce and Family Mediator. Recently, she started Saturday Morning Mediations, designed to provide experience for those in mediation training and to provide services to people who cannot afford to pay a mediation fee.
Sharon has a Master’s degree in counseling from the University of San Francisco and currently teaches psychology at Cincinnati State.
Sequence
To mediate domestic issues in Ohio, the Supreme Court requires 12 hours of Basic Mediation Training and 40 hours of Family/Divorce Mediation Training. John McElwee, JD, and Marie Hill present the Family/Divorce Mediation Training.

- Class is offered for attorneys, court personnel, EAP staff, educators, mental health professionals, clergy and those who wish to learn the skills of mediation.

VISA, Mastercard and Discover are all accepted. Training manual is included in cost. Full payment is required at time of registration. Checks should be made payable to Beech Acres Parenting Center. Continental breakfast each day. Snacks are served in the afternoon. Lunch on your own. Cancellation: Deposit is refundable (less $25.00 service fee) up to one week prior to the training.
